The tenements cover an area of mostly Jurassic age sediments which could mask underlying Permian age coal measures laying on Carboniferous age basement similar to those exposed to the east in the Ashford Colliery site. The tenement encompasses an area of un-drilled and undefined structures to the west of the granite intrusion offering a mirror of the depositional environment found in the Ashford coal measures.
