NEC is committed to working cooperatively with the local communities in which we operate, including Traditional Owner groups. Our plans to develop a high quality coking coal mining operation in the area will bring jobs and economic opportunities to the residents of Maryborough and surrounding communities, as well as the wider population of Queensland.
Part of the process undertaken to develop an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the mining operation includes consultation with the local community. Opportunities will be provided to all interested stakeholders during this process to gather information about the project and provide feedback about areas of interest.
The area of EPC923 is identified as connected to the local Butchulla people. A series of meetings and notices (according to the Native Title Protection Conditions) were held and exchanged between NEC and the Butchulla Representatives regarding recent exploration work.
